– Test of English as a Foreign Language |
|
The Test of English as a Foreign
Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test which measures
the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use
and understand English as it is used in college and
university settings. Scores on the test are accepted
by more than 5000 colleges and universities, professional
schools, licensing agencies and professional schools
in 90 countries. Over time, many changes in the test format have been made keeping in mind
the changing requirements of the universities and the
students.
The traditional Paper Based TOEFL (PBT) is the old TOEFL that tests the listening, structure,
reading, and writing sections. Internationally, it has been replaced by Internet Based TOEFL (iBT).
TOEFL (iBT) is an internet based test delivered in secure
testing centers around the world. It tests all the four
language skills that are important for effective communication:
listening, speaking, writing, and reading. It is more
comprehensive and integrated, and emphasizes the students’
ability to use English effectively in academic settings.
The new integrated tasks require the test takers to
combine more that one skill. The integrated tasks ask
test takers to:
read, listen, and then speak in
response to a question
listen and then speak in response to a question
read, listen, and then write in response to a question
There is no separate structure section. Grammar is now
tested as part of the other sections. It is important
to use good grammar in the speaking and the writing
sections.
Both the paper based, and internet based TOEFL tests are available throughout UAE.
Most universities in UAE require students to take the PBT exam.
Our students average a score of 575+ in the PBT exam.
In the iBT exam, our students average 101.
All students score much higher than their university requirement.
